Atherosclerosis results in the narrowing of key arteries due to fatty deposits and is the
primary cause of cardiovascular disease.
AFFIRIS AG,a Vienna based company has announced the development of a atherosclerosis vaccine aimed at increasing the blood levels of good cholesterol. This is in sharp contrast to the mode of action of current widely used anticholesterol medications that decrease the amount of bad cholesterol.
